Tell us a bit about you and your spouse.
Mike and I first “met” on the dating app, Hinge, in August 2019, with our first date at Committee, a restaurant in Boston’s Seaport neighborhood shortly thereafter. I was initially skeptical of online dating, but as we near our six-month wedding anniversary, I encourage anyone who shares the same hesitation, to go in with an open mind and an open heart – it may just pay off!
I am a pediatric nurse practitioner and love working closely with school-age and adolescent patients, and Mike manages educational programming at a biopharmaceutical company. When not at work, you will find us jogging around Boston and its neighboring towns (hills and all), spending quality time with family and friends, and building new traditions as newlyweds.
What stands out about your experience with Bespoke?
Our wedding planner, The Wedding Collab, recommended Bespoke Designs, and from our first meeting with Shari and the team back in November 2022, we knew that they were the perfect creative partner for our wedding celebration. The team allowed the brainstorming process to play out organically – always enthusiastic, receptive, and supportive of our vision. I love elegant details and Shari provided us with multiple paper samples, ribbon options, and color swatches during the design process, which were all so helpful in seeing our vision come to life. With their excellent expertise, we created beautiful pieces that complemented each other effortlessly and captured the essence of our springtime wedding.
Pictured here is the Save the Date, a six page hand-sewn booklet. Incorporating letterpress and hand illustration, this piece captures the essence of the industrial architecture and historic charm of The Foundry, a 19th-century building with white washed brick arches, full-span windows, lush exterior gardens and views of the 59th Street Bridge.
What influenced your vision for your invitations?
Our wedding took place during the full bloom of spring at an industrial icon, The Foundry, in Long Island City, and we could not resist using this backdrop coupled with a vibrant color palette as inspiration for our wedding suite. I have always loved personalized stationery and appreciate the feeling it brings each recipient, so I was excited to make our printed materials something extra special. We loved the opportunity to employ an array of techniques, including textures, shapes, and colors, to design unique stationary that would not only reflect our joyful union, but also evoke the same friendly feeling one often experiences when opening a letter from a dear one.
The outside of the die-cut pochette carries forward the white washed brick of the building. It is tied with a custom–dyed silk charmeuse ribbon in a lush spring green.
Unfurling like the petals on an early spring blossom, the interior florals capture Jen’s vision of a vibrant color palette of florals.
The pieces of the suite are custom die-cut florals, meticulously expressed with sculptural blind embossing. Each piece features a unique color of letterpress and flower: Lily of the Valley, daffodils, peonies, and tulips. When stacked and assembled, the edges form the impression of the bride’s bouquet.
Any tips related to wedding inspiration that might help other couples?
No matter the duration of your wedding planning process, it will certainly be filled with many decisions and details – some fairly straightforward and others more extensive. This can feel daunting at times, but cherish the smaller moments with your partner, such as when you burst out laughing while practicing your first kiss and dance or navigating the politics of a seating chart. Those moments bring you even closer. Never lose sight that the process culminates in a milestone celebration that not only honors your love story, but the support system that has championed your journey from the very start.
