Wild and Windswept on Montauk

Kelley and David’s beach-inspired wedding invitations take a walk on the wild side. Deep ocean blues contrast with moody mauve florals for a vintage vibe you won’t want to miss.

On the far eastern end of Long Island, Montauk is known for its rugged waves, laid back surf culture and unspoiled coastline. The wedding venue, Gurney’s Montauk Resort and Seawater Spa, is all about modern elegance and clean lines overlooking glorious sweeping views of the Atlantic.

The bride, a dancer and choreographer, was attracted to dusky purple hydrangeas (check out her dark silk flower earrings!) We caught that spirit and created some drama with sea blue, midnight sky, and beach plum colored letterpress on handmade paper.

Several days of events were part of K&D’s wedding celebration. Things kicked off with a Thursday night bash at the bride’s parents’ home on the beach. (Strategically, this allowed guests to beat the infamous Friday traffic heading out to the Hamptons.) A Friday night rehearsal dinner followed, then came the wedding, celebration and a beach party.

The envelope is ocean blue with hand calligraphy and a hand-painted hydrangea accent. The invitation and reply card are letterpress on handmade paper with a naturally formed raw edge that recalls the whitecaps of the surf. This is the quiet luxury of handcrafted paper; each piece is one of a kind. There is a fibrous texture and a tactile quality that is organic, rustic, earthy and textural. The details card is letterpress with watercolor drawings of beach chairs. Don’t miss the tiny detail of the couple’s initials on the beach umbrella!

We scattered the fun across the guest experience details with menus, cocktail napkins, matchboxes and table numbers, all echoing the moody mauves and deep midnight blue, creating a total vibe for this wild and windswept Montauk wedding.
